Three Dimensional Biological Imaging of Drug Interactions

The ability to observe the trajectory of atomic force microscope tips can be used to image particles in three-dimensions (3D) on the nano-scale. Rapid data collection can lead to accurate imaging with little inferences made. This kind of microscopy can be done in naturally occurring environments without freezing the specimen. This technology can help in monitoring chemical and biological mechanisms as well as protein conformations.

Researchers at the University of Missouri have worked to create novel way to effectively image nanoparticles in three dimensions. With this device accurate 3D nano-images can be produced and studied in naturally occurring environments.

APPLICATIONS:
-Biological imaging relating to drug interactions with substrates/targets
-With slight modifications can be used in semiconductors
