Production of Nanoporous Palladium with Chemical and Energy Applications

Palladium has found numerous uses in the automotive industry, electronics industry, and in chemistry. Palladium has the ability to absorb very large amounts of hydrogen and is used as an oxidation agent in catalytic converters.

This invention allows for a relatively inexpensive method of creating nanoporous palladium. The nanoporous palladium particles have size dimensions on the order of 10 microns. The surface area of these particles are covered with a significant amount of pores or pitting on the order of 100nm. This method has the potential of being modified for use in the mass production of nanoporous palladium.
