Electric Field Process During Battery Casting Process

A novel concept for making battery electrodes to control microstructures of electrodes is developed for addressing present energy storage technology gaps and meeting future energy storage requirements. An electric field (EF) is used to control the microstructures during tape-casting. The control of micro-structures, a novel concept in energy material processing, has demonstrated the potential to provide unprecedented control of electrode structures and to enhance performance. Electrochemical tests show that the new electrodes have superior performance in the specific capacity, areal capacity, and cycle life.
